When Calvert Trust Exmoor started an appeal in 2016 to buy two new bikes to add to their fleet, they hadn’t counted on the overwhelming support of the local community!
As a result, Calvert Trust Exmoor were able to far exceed their expectations and have not only been able to purchase two new Tomcat Hand-Propelled Trikes, but purchase two additional Tomcat Fizz Trikes to add further enjoyment for their guests.
“We would particularly like to thank Aubrey Orchard Lisle Charitable Trust and Envireau Water for their generous donations, along with a number of local rotary clubs (Holsworthy, Torrington, Braunton Caen, Ilfracombe, Exmoor, South Molton and Bideford Bridge) and individual donors; without your support our guests would not have access to these fantastic new bikes for our accessible cycling sessions.”

Tomcat’s hand-propelled trike is suitable for users of 4 years to adult who suffer near to total leg paralysis, whilst the fizz trike is designed to suit the needs of children and adults with mild to severe disabilities, whether learning, visual or physical. All of the bikes have been fitted with Tomcat’s Carer Control system so the parent, carer or instructor can brake, steer and aid propulsion from behind. These additions are a huge enhancement to the centre.
“Having the new Tomcat bikes has given us the ability to empower more of our guests in our cycling sessions. For those that would not have been able to ride alone before, the Tomcat’s carer brake system allows the rider to have a full sensory experience of cycling whilst they are still safely in the hands of another. In addition, with the abdominal and back supports that can be fitted, those that may have had to ride in tandem or in their chair on the front loader can now ride a bike themselves.”
